THATS RIGHT.
OBAMA!!!

PROGRESSIVE! YES!
I told Sarah Palin the other night... it wasn't going to happen... too bad that she was just a drunk girl dressed up like SP... but still the image still stands.

This is a great moment in history. Hopefully he will begin to put us on the right path. He's going to have so much to deal with. We need to make sure we are patient and don't expect a miracle... we should expect progressive reform over time.

YEY!

This blog is dedicated to Chimmy.

Rainy Day Blues

I VOTED!!!!

Just kidding Susan B. (RIP) ... your hard work is appreciated... cuz I voted yo!

Obama is ahead, presently, I don't want to jinx or thinx about it.
So let's hope things stay the course... and not in the John McCain sense of the phrase.

Today has been an official rainy day.
(Rain... duh)
I woke up sick...
My car went up in smoke on the way to Salisbury...
and I lost a full day's worth of work.

So things aren't so chipper today.

But let's talk about the positive.

My friend Holly (Ho Jo) sent me a FABULOUS youtube link. It is the Ron Clark Academy singing about voting whatever way you desire, as long as you show up and VOTE!!

This is really cute, hilarious and true! These kids do a great job. Thanks Holly and thank you CNN... also... without a doubt, thank you YOUTUBE! YEY!

I am currently watching the poll results and waiting for pizza. I think I'm going to stop typing now but I'll leave with this...

Germs

I am not feeling well. Neither is Julia... but we both have good attitudes about it, so hopefully the boogies will blow over... into a tissue.

I'm not taking Mucinex, since the muci-incident of '07 when Allison and I each drank like 2 beers and blacked out because the Mucinex had completely dehydrated our bodies... it was the weirdest thing ever. Don't remember a thing. Luckily, we both were sick so our true desires were to go to sleep... but it did make up the catch phrase "The Muci made me do it" (pronouced "mew-see").

Today is gorgeous, so hopefully when Julia gets up we'll play outside and get some serious vitamins from the sun.

Hopefully the sun and some vitamins and rest will blow all the germs away. This brings me to my next visual... The Germ.
It is a video I did about 2 years ago about a little germ who just wants to have fun... enjoy.

Tonight I will venture to Easton so I can vote A.S.A.P. tomorrow morning. I can't wait to VOTE!!!

I love the fact that I can vote.
I know a lot of people who say they don't feel like their votes matter, well, they do.
Think about countries who don't let their people vote. Think about people who are treated as second class citizens and have no say on how their lives may end up or what is going to happen in politics. Anyone can be president in this country. Sure, you have to work to make the millions of dollars to campaign, but you can do it. You have the option. You just have to know it a while ahead of time. Like anything else, it takes the work and effort.
I like that I was born in a time when women are allowed to vote. I can't imagine the frustration that the suffragettes had to endure. I love reading about their stories because it motivates me to do whatever I want, at whatever costs.
I'd like to now look at a British Suffragette, Ms. Emily Davison.
She was a CRAZY LADY. I mean, seriously nuts.
She threw herself down 3 flights of stairs, only to be saved by an awning. She went on multiple hunger strikes and worked arduously for women's votes.
She met her demise in 1913, when she threw herself under the king's horse at a race, attempting to put the flag of the WSPU on the horse.

Here is a link to a summary on wikipedia... granted not the most reliable source, but the funniest write up on the situation...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emily_Davison

And here is a video of the race...
(Keep in mind it's from 1913)

(The music is funny... but it is a crazy, serious message of dedication)

Okay, the child summons.
until later.

AMAZING HALLOWEEN

My Halloween was SO MUCH FUN!

Let's start with my amazing costume.
I decided that my costume is named "Alexis as Isabella Rossellini as a Bee."
If you don't know... Isabella Rossellini is the daughter of Ingrid Bergman (my guardian angel) and Roberto Rossellini (Italian neo-realism director). She was the spokesmodel for Lancome (makeup company) during the 1980s and early 90s. She is also the mother of the current Lancome spokesmodel Elettra Rossellini Weidemann. Anyway, she's also a crazy lady who created Green Porno for the Sundance Channel (which I often refer to on this blog).
Anyway, due to my recent obsession with the Rossellini family, I created this character. It went over most people's heads... but here's the equation...
+ =

Amazing? yes... but THERE'S MORE!

Jeffrey bought Peanut Butter a bee costume too, so I had a fellow bee. He was a little drone and all he does is "sit and wait. To have sex. A FEMALE READY TO MATE!" ...sorry... anyway... he was a big hit with trick-or-treaters as well as anyone who sees him.
Here are some pictures of the little man as a bee.
BEWARE-- EXTREME CUTENESS AHEAD!

Be careful, he'll slip that tongue, no doubt.

Another costume that was an enormous hit was the homemade Ladybug costume I made for Julia. It took me a whole weekend to complete, but the end result was fantastic!

From scratch, bitch. That's right.
Jump to the day of Halloween and it was time for Julia to wear her costume, legit. She had been talking about it all week.

Also, we had been decorating all week, which was a party in itself.

We decorated with recyclable materials and had a day of the dead theme conjoined with traditional United States cheap orange, green and black dècor.

The day went quickly and the preparation for the party was intense. We had the troops (Julia, Jay, Jeff, Sarah and Myself) doing work all over town. We managed to pull it all together by 4pm... PARTY TIME.

Jay the Cowboy putting stuff in a box for some last minute clean up.

Jeff the Gladiator helping with last minute adjustments, or not really helping but saying number one.

Sarah AKA Bristol Palin (whether she likes it or not) and Julia "Ladybug Girl." Trying to avoid cookies... but guess who won this fight?

JULIA!

HAHA!

Alexis as Isabella Rossellini as a bee and Ladybug Girl!

The party was hoppin'!

Picnic in the television room... a rare and special occasion in the Carlander/Case household.

There were two definite costume contest winners (not that there was any actual costume contest, but if there had been, they would have taken home the gold).

In second place Prof. Moore with her Day of the Dead costume... showing up and scaring the pants off of Sarah

Jeff and I knew ahead of time, if not, we probably would have run. Not a neighborhood to fuck around with some skeletons.

First place goes to Thomas Long
THE LIBERAL MEDIA!!! BEST COSTUME HANDS DOWN

The kid is 9. BRAVO!

So, after the festivities, it was time to get our drink on.
Sarah FF and I went to the beer store, and little did I know, but this would start a whole new Halloween chapter.

Scene: Cheers on Rt. 13...beer store.
FF and I had just bought some beer and were getting into the car when a voice yelled at me
"I like your costume!"
I looked up and saw that it was a girl dressed as none other than GOVERNOR SARAH PALIN.

I said, "Uh, thanks. You're Sarah Palin right?"
SP: "Yeah! You got it!"
I said: "Well, no offense, but, fuck you."
SP: "Oh? haha?"

FF: "I can't believe you just said that!"
Me: "It was a joke, she laughed a little."

Later that night, FF and I went out to the Monkey Barrel for some fun, drinks and dancing.
We meandered through the crowd of ghouls and gobblins as well as slutty bees, nurses, nuns, hookers and thieves and who do we run into but GOVERNOR SARAH PALIN... THE SAME ONE!

SP:" You're the 'fuck you Sarah Palin' bee!"
SP's Friend: "Holy shit, you are the 'fuck you Sarah Palin' girl!"
Me: "Yeah, it was a joke. Sorry."
SP: "You're an asshole! I almost punched you in the face!"
Me: "Well, no you didn't. I mean I'm fine with being an asshole. I stand by my fuck you."
SP (Falling over drunk, mind you): "You're an asshole! I'm not political, it's just a costume."
Me: I am political, so you can punch me, but you shouldn't wear the costume if you can't take the heat.
SP's Friend: "It's whatever, she's drunk. Just you shouldn't yell fuck you to people."
Me: "Understood"
FF: "Let's go."
Me: "BYEEEE"

We then determined that not only was SP a bitch, but also has an alcohol problem... not a good mix for a VP candidate.

EVEN later that night:

I had to make pee pee and decided to use the side bathroom, to avoid conflict...
Who was in there? You ask?
GOVERNOR SARAH PALIN
I decided I could hold it until we got home. Just as I was telling FF we should make an exit, my friend Holly bursts through the door and shouts
"THAT SARAH PALIN IS A BITCH!"

So the lesson...

"Fuck you Sarah Palin"... potentially lethal, but wholeheartedly felt.

This story is dedicated to the girl dressed up as SP. I hope you find your political side and stop making Sarah Palin look dumber than she already looks.

This week

So this week I probably won't be posting too much.
I am still working on the spellbound blog.. someday it will be published...
but this week is dedicated to USC and the application process as well as Halloween decorating and costume design.
Julia's Ladybug Costume, I MADE THAT ISHHHHH. That's right... and she wouldn't take it off... I'd say it's a winner!

Not enough time in the day for everything, but it's okay...so the hiatus begins!

Not Getting Married TODAY

(Picture of my guilt for depriving my readers [reader])

So, I am truly going to finish the Sexism in Spellbound post at some point... I promise... but in the mean time, I couldn't let some things go by...

There is an article about Steven Sondheim's work today in the  New York Times. Steven Sondheim is a playwright/composer who has been working and writing for decades.

I am a big fan of his work, and there is one performance I would like to note here... It's Madeline Khan playing Amy in Company. She sings "(Not Getting Married) Today." This song is hilarious and intellegent not to mention Khan's singing and acting are superb.

Click on this image and it takes you to the performance... just stay with it, it's funny.

Madeline Khan died in 1999 and it was quite sad. I love her work in other movies, especially her work in Mel Brooks films. I was actually just turning off Young Frankenstein at my birthday party, that year, when the news said that she had passed away from cancer.

Paper Moon

"Miss Trixie's gotta winky tink."

High Anxiety
"What's your sign?
--Sorry, it's unlisted"

History of the World Part 1

"Virgins! Put on your no entry signs!"

Young Frankenstein

"Taffeta darling
--Taffeta sweetheart
No the dress, it's taffeta, easily wrinkled."

Clue!
"Being killed is pretty final wouldn't you say?"

Blazing Saddles

"A wed wose, how womantic"

My earliest memory of Madeline Khan was from her appearances on Sesame Street. She was part of one of my favorite songs, "Put Down the Ducky." She also did several other famous Sesame Street performances as well as appearances on the Muppet Show.

Click the ducky to play the video!

One last performance that would place Madeline Khan high on my priority list of heros would be her Saturday Night Live hosting.
She did a famous skit with Gilda Radner that was making fun of speech impediments and Barbara Walters... TOO GOOD!

Click on this image to see the skit.

Well it makes me sad that both of these women have passed on. But they left a mark on the comedy and dramatic worlds which is inspirational to women, like myself, who are trying to be funny and get away with shit.

Steven Sondheim's work is also a must have, so if you haven't seen some of the work on stage, you can rent movies like Sweeney Todd (Johnny Depp is in it) or West Side Story (Natalie Wood is in that one... she was also in Miracle on 34th Street with another hero of mine... Maureen O'Hara... oh and Santa Claus).
Check it out! CULTURE YOURSELF!

To Adi

Dearest Adi, this is for you... i found this picture... and it just proves that I am not the biggest freak out there... not to mention that people love swedes, there's just nothing you can do about that.

It really must have been a rockin new year's eve for the person who had the time to make this. SWEET DEAL.

I wish that ABBA had been holding the pictures, not just a crappy MS Paint version of a dream.
