Bewitched is on TV!

I was just perusing the television guide on my parent's Direct TV and found Bewitched on WGN! I am extremely excited because it is my ALL TIME favorite show. It hasn't been on television since I was a freshman in college!
Here's WGN's synopsis:

"Bewitched-The focus of the show (which was based on a satirical short story in Harper's Weekly Magazine, written by a young Norman Mailer and titled The Witch of Westport, according to the A&E Network Biography of Elizabeth Montgomery) is on the mixed marriage of a nose-twitching witch, Samantha Stephens (Montgomery), and her mortal husband, Darrin (originally played by Dick York and later by Dick Sargent). The series, a romantic comedy, shows how true love can endure the most vexing of situations, even between a witch and a human. The series is set in a suburb of New York City, to which Darrin commutes for work."

Elizabeth Montgomery and this show are what originially inspired me to be in film/television. Elizabeth Montgomery was the first person's death I ever cried over, on May 18, 1995 (I was 10) even noting it in my, then, diary. I watched this show EVERY night growing up (when it was on "Nick-at-Nite") and then on TBS in the mornings, summer and sick days were the best!
I've read books about Montgomery and the show, she was an actor/producer and really worked hard to bring this show to the forefront of television.
The show ran for 8 seasons, and I have 4 of them on DVD. I can't wait to collect the rest of them!

For now, I will continue to watch it on WGN and DVD.

Natasha Richardson

This past weekend I watched quite a few Natasha Richardson films. She was amazing and her death was sad and probably preventable. 

I watched her Charlie Rose interviews-- and she seemed to have a sense of accomplishment but also a sense of mortality. She said to live each day to the fullest and I believe this to be true, so I hope she was living that way. 

Her films were wonderful. You should netflix them if you haven't or go to amazon and buy one or two. I think, so far, my favorite is Widow's Peak she and Mia Farrow are marvelous in this film.

I think what I find saddest about her death, is her work ethic and ambitions must now be carried on by others. She was a real force in the fight against AIDS. Her father died from the disease, and she was one of the biggest propenents for amFAR to help raise money to find  a cure for the illness. 

She was also a Tony award winning stage actress. I think when someone dies and can no longer be seen on the live stage, is one of the saddest things in the world. I think most theatre goers and enthusiasts might agree with me here. There is no replacing an actor or actress who fills the room when they walk on stage. The stage and theatre are so intimate, emtional, jaw droppingly brilliant and irriplacable-- it's hard to think one could never have the opportunity to see a grand performance ever again.

In tribute to Natasha Richardson--I'd like to post this video of her work in the theater. 

I hope her spirit carries on and wherever she is she knows how appreciated her work was (and in film/television, is).

Might Morphin Power Murder?!

So Skylar Deleon, a.k.a. Roger from the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers television series has been sentenced to death by the state of California and the Orange County Superior Court.

I cannot believe that he has taken his skills as a Power Ranger and used them for evil. I mean, come on man! You should never mix your self defense skills, super powers, and gymnastic fantastics with meth. BAD CHOICE.

I actually don't know if he was doing meth, but I would imagine that he caught a case of the crazies from something.

Deleon committed the murders of 2 yachting enthusiasts in 2006, just outside of Newport Beach, CA and a killing of a man in the desert in 2004. His "then-wife" helped him kill the people and received life in prison.

I grew up watching the Power Rangers and I freaking loved pretending to beat up bad guys, defeating large imaginative animatronic beasts and yelling "high-ya!" in an American accent.
I think that "Alpha 5" would probably be disgusted by "Roger's" actions and would have probably have ordered the death penalty as well. Sis for shame.

All Sorts of Crazy: In the Morning

Isabella Rossellini made a stop on the Today Show. It was the later in the morning time with Kathy Lee Gifford and the other chick.
I don't watch the Today show, but I do tune into Hulu...
Here's the video from the morning...expect nothing but crazy...and since KLG was there...most likely little gets accomplished.
(Mom--I know you could care less about Isabella and Ingrid, but PLEASE watch this clip because of Kathy Lee Gifford--Regis got rid of her just in time for her to snap!)

Okay--to be honest, I hadn't watched the clip completely when I wrote this. I know, poor form. BUT Can I just say, that this clip TRUMPS Isabella's crazy style probably 100xs over. Kathy Lee Gifford is insane! She's like touchy, dirty and loud crazy. I'm not sure I like that style of crazy because it's too "in your face."

Though watching her is entertaining, I just felt very uncomfortable watching that clip, but I couldn't turn my head away. Apparently she's doing her job, but maybe she should lay off whatever booze she drinks in the morning and stop touching, groping and sexually harassing her co-host and guests. Luckily, I'm pretty sure Isabella can take her. Lol.

Elizabeth Montgomery: My First Hero in Film/Television

When I was very young, probably 2 or 3, there was a cartoon that caught my eye. It was the opening credits of the 1960s show, Bewitched.

As I grew, so did my attention span and my love for this show. When I was 7-8, we lived at my Grandma and Pa's house for a while. We had just left the Air Force and the transition was, once again, a bit tough. I found that with cable, there came "Nick-at-Nite." This was a completely welcomed gift because as long as my homework was done, I had practiced whatever instrument I was playing at the time, time had been spent outside and I wasn't in trouble for something, I was allowed to watch T.V. I bargained with my parents to push back my bedtime to 9 o'clock because this was when Bewitched ended.
Let let me watch. Pandora's box was opened.
I watched the show and dreamed of someday making magic too. I wanted to be like Samantha, Elizabeth Montgomery's character. Though I didn't have any desire to be stuck inside all day with a dude who comes home to yell at me, I did want to cause/have shenanigans...especially if I could have powers as well. That gave her freedom.
The best time of year to watch Bewitched, summer time. "Nick-at-nite" had this special thing during the summer called "Block Party Summer" and they would play 4 episodes in a row and it was amazing. My Pa hated this. He use to tell me that I could watch it upstairs because he'd already seen this period of time. It makes me laugh now, after he's gone, because I only had to do that one time. He watched it with me all the other times, he just wanted to make an initial point; so him. I watched 60 Minutes with him, he watched Bewitched with me...empathetic.

Elizabeth Montgomery was my hero. I wanted to know everything about the show, her life, how they made the show, what you had to do to be a witch.

As I grew older, around 9 or 10, I knew every trick they used. I learned how the characters changes, who was who, how to "pop" from scene to scene...stop/start camera action!
Summer time became even better, in the morning, Bewitched was on TBS and was in color!! I had only seen the black and white shows and on a rare occasion seen it in color.
My sister and I would watch every weekday morning, loving every moment.
I think my favorite moment in this time, was when I discovered Serina, Samantha's cousin (also played by Elizabeth Montgomery). She was a crazy lady, and that was cool. She was the hipster and the rebel who liked to mess with people. Here's a taste.


On May 18th 1995 I was in the car with my Mom and my sister, Erin, and on the radio they announced that Elizabeth Montgomery had died. I was struck with instantaneous grief. I remember turning to the window and crying. She was the first person in my life to die and bring me to tears. There had been deaths, but I guess I was too young or unaffected, anyway, I was very sad. I wrote it in my little diary that night. I drew a picture and everything. I bought the people magazine with her on the cover and I just remember all of it vividly.

Elizabeth Montgomery, Bewitched, and my family all made me love television and film. I still wish I could have met Ms. Montgomery or been born a person with magical powers (not magic like in Vegas, that's weird, lol). Now I know how to make movie magic and I am living my dreams. Thanks Elizabeth Montgomery, wherever you are.

Economy

Today I was listening to NPR before I made it to work. 

I was listening to a morning program that comes out of WAMU, which is the radio station a girl from TCA and I sat at this weekend to get some footage...kinda weird, but anyway...

The reports were focusing on the trials and tribulations that our congress and country in general are facing currently.

Some people feel that the $700 billion check should be written, I firmly disagree.  I think it's jumping the gun. I think the retributions should be concentrated on the people who have made the mistakes, not the people whose money is going to be lost anyway... we the regular people. Someone like your grandmother, just about to retire and now can't because someone high up on Wall Street decided to gamble with her money over and over again. With money that is worth JACK SHIT at this point.

I think Nancy Pelosi is right. Generally, yes, I tend to agree with her. I think that they are trying to point fingers at Madame Speaker Pelosi, but it's just because all of the mirrors in the White House have been turned around in order to avoid seeing the real problem.

The Bill needs to be figured out soon, but I think they'd be jumping the gun to settle this with out thinking.

I don't want to live in another depression... no one does... but we're still not as bad off as we were in the late 70's. We just have an enormous, and OBVIOUS, spending issue on Wall Street. And since it is Wall Street, and we are an internationally trading country it's also effecting everyone globally. The crisis is not going to be settled by one bill nor in one day. DUH.

I feel like they should do that V8 commercial thing to anyone who thought this would work. BOP! Should have had a V8 and maybe you wouldn't have bet people's mortgages on AIR.

So I'm starting another blog soon. It will be more video oriented with less politics. It will help anyone who's looking for cool places to go on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. It will help students (mostly) find cool places to eat, have fun, or ideas about what to do when you're trapped in an area that is GORGEOUS yet BORING (particularly for single people ages 16-30).

Grandma and Grandpa as well as the family can look at the videos too if they're looking for a hole in the wall joint to grab some yummy eats.

I'm incredibly motivated right now. Though I'm doing a marvelous job of avoiding my studies for the GRE (taking that ish on Friday). 

Julia just went down for a nap...SO YEY ME! haha.

She's increasingly independent, which I think only further motivates me. It's somewhat weird to get inspiration from a newly 2 year old, but hey I'll take it where I can get it.

So thanks Madame Speaker and Julia... you're making me fired up and I'll just work on kicking so much ass no one can stop me.

Cold season

I think I have a cold. The little girl I babysit definitely does. Poor thing, she just went down for her nap and didn't eat hardly any of her lunch :( Or as she says it "yunch." 

I, too, didn't have a grand "yunch." I ate a little something but I have a head ache. 

Today I am happy it is starting to feel like autumn. Some reasons:

1. Got 3 skirts yesterday that are fall colors, all for 21 bucks. Hells yeah.

2. Though our Capitalist economy is failing, I found a lot of quarters in my room which I'm saving for a rainy day --> fall has plenty of rainy days.

3. Just clothing in general is much classier and fun in fall. Winter is the classiest, but fall holds a close 2nd.

4. Halloween is soon. I think 3 of my friends and I are going to be ABBA. Pretty freaking pumped about that one.

5. Football

6. My birthday. Though it is in late fall, it's RIGHT next to Thanksgiving this year. I keep it real. I celebrate the WHOLE week. Not by drinking or anything dumb all week...I just have a deep understanding that the week of my birthday is all about me (well it's also about my grandma because we share a b-day... shout out G-ma!).

7. Stockings and Jeans. Two of my favorite clothing items (notice the theme...I also love being naked... irony at its best!)

8. All Saints day. I have always thought this was a ridiculous Catholic holiday (though I respect the Holy Day of Obligation... granted I haven't OBSERVED it in a long time), but I think it is the bomb diggity that they combine ALL of the saints into one day. They make up for shenannigans due to Halloween festivities AND it's kinda like presidents' day, just one big party for the afterlife.

9. I'm ready to hibernate

10. I have TONS of stuff to do, thank goodness for Grad School applications...keepin' me busy!

So I'm pretty boring today, I don't feel like commenting on politics right now, nor the dumb ass speech that el douche Bush gave today (quick tid bit, it's your f-ing fault you mindless piece of shit).
